About St. John's
Our Church
The saints at St. John's Lutheran Church began meeting as a congregation in 1883. They adopted a formal constitution on July 13, 1886. In 1891, they joined the Missouri Synod. Since 1895, the church has been located at the corner of Walker and Angie Street in Sanborn, Iowa.
For over 140 years, God's Word has been preached and the Sacraments have been given at St. John's Lutheran Church. It is a congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in the Iowa District West.
We invite you to join us for worship on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. Bible study follows the service.
Our Pastor
The Rev. Nicholas “Nick” Sinatra was born and raised in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Biblical Languages from Concordia University Chicago in December 2020. Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued pastoral ministry at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, graduating with a Master of Divinity in May 2025.
During his time at seminary, Nick met his wife, Joselyn (“Josie”). They were married while he served his vicarage year at a congregation in Arlington, Wisconsin.
Nick was ordained and installed as pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Sanborn, Iowa, on June 29, 2025. He is honored to serve the people of St. John and the wider community, sharing the hope of Christ through Word and Sacrament.
In his free time, Pastor Nick enjoys playing low brass instruments, including baritone, tuba, and trombone—a hobby he has carried with him since his youth.
